Family reunion to a spouse living in Germany
You are required to present a valid passport (min. validity 6 months).
The following documents must be presented to the Embassy during your appointment. Make sure to handover only complete applications.

- Filled in application form (national visa) + declaration form (Section 54 (2) 8 in conjunction with Section 53 of the Residence Act)
- 3 biometric passport photos (not older than 6 months)
- Copy of all pages of your passport (A4 size copy)
- Copy of all pages of your spouse passport (A4 size copy)
- Informal invitation letter of spouse living in Germany stating that he/she wishes to live with spouse in Germany
- If spouse is a Non-German: Copy of spouse’s residence permit (“Aufenthaltstitel”) for Germany
- If spouse is a recognized refugee or entitled to asylum/ subsidiary protection: Copy of the notice of recognition of the BAMF
- Copy of “Meldebescheinigung” of the spouse living in Germany, not older than 6 months
- A1 certificate issued by Goethe Institut
- Original Singhalese/Tamil marriage certificate + scanned copy certified by the Ministry of Foreign Relations and translation or German marriage certificate
- Original Singhalese/Tamil of your birth certificate + copy + translation
- If applicable: Original Singhalese/Tamil Decree Absolute and Decree Nisi + scanned copy certified by the Ministry of Foreign Relations mentioning the custody of the child + translation Submitted 2 Although the information in this leaflet has been prepared with utmost care, we cannot accept any responsibility for inaccuracies contained herein.
- If applicable: Original Singhalese/Tamil death certificate of the deceased parent + copy + translation
- Only if spouse in Germany is an EU-citizen (not German): employment contract or university admission letter of spouse, salary slips of spouse from the last 3 months, tenancy agreement in Germany with size of the apartment. Please note, A1 certificate is not required in this case.
Please submit all original documents with two copies. Moreover, every set has to be sorted already in the correct order as showed above!
Fee: EUR 75 (to be paid in Rs., by credit card or cash, not applicable when joining a German spouse) – no refund in case of rejection! Conversion into Rs. is made based on the exchange rate at the time of application.
As your application will also be forwarded to the competent immigration authorities in Germany, the visa procedure will take at least three months. Furthermore, the required formal verification of Sri Lankan documents has to be completed. During that time no status inquiries are answered. Please refrain from contacting us during the procedure of your application. |
Note further:
False or falsified documents will lead to the refusal of the visa and / or further consequences.
Incomplete applications may result in refusal. Complete documentation does not guarantee a visa approval.
The German Embassy Colombo reserves the right to ask for additional documents and / or call applicant for additional information or interview.
