Due to the entry restrictions on all non-essential travel from third countries to the Federal Republic of Germany to contain COVID-19, the German Embassy in Colombo can currently only process new national visas in the specific exceptional cases listed below:

Extension of the deadline for the simplified procedure for new national visas (for long stays; D visa)
The current entry restrictions may mean that you are/were not able to use a national visa issued by the German Embassy in Colombo prior to the entry into force of the entry restrictions on 17 March 2020 during its period of validity.
The German Embassy in Colombo has already informed on this website about the simplified procedure for new national visas. In the meantime the deadline for this procedure has been extended by the Federal Foreign Office until 31 December 2020.
Only if your travel purpose falls under one of the above mentions exemptions of the current entry restrictions, a new national visa can be issued as part of the simplified procedure upon application. This fast‑track procedure will be available if your date of travel has changed, but the purpose of your stay and destination remain unaltered.
An informal application for the issue of a new visa under a simplified procedure must be submitted to the German Embassy in Colombo no later than 31 December 2020. In order to do this, please send an e-mail with the title “application fast-track procedure for new national visa” to email@example.com . Please state also your complete personal data and the file number of the previous visa application in order to help us speed up the procedure. It may be necessary that up‑to‑date documents proving that you still fulfil the requirements for a visa will be requested by the Embassy. It is not necessary to book another appointment or attend another interview.
When visiting the Embassy, please wear a mask covering mouth and nose and use the disinfectant available for hands.
When entering the passport and visa office, a temperature measurement will be taken by a security guard. If the temperature is elevated, you will not be allowed to enter the Embassy’s premises.
