On 23rd August 2023, Ambassador Dr. Felix Neumann presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. President Ranil Wickremesinghe during an official ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat.
The ceremony was attended by Senior Advisor to the President on National Security and Chief of Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayake, who warmly received the envoy upon his arrival, as well as The Foreign Affairs State Minister, Tharaka Balasooriya, Secretary to the President, Saman Ekanayake, and Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary, Aruni Wijewardena.
Ambassador Dr. Neumann said, “As Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Sri Lanka, I am very much looking forward to further deepening the relations and the cooperation between our two countries. Please rest assured that Germany will continue to support Sri Lanka in achieving a sustainable economic and financial recovery as well as its development goals. Germany is here as a friend.”
On 11th of November 2023 Germany and Sri Lanka will celebrate in a public event the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between our two countries since the first German Ambassador was accredited to Sri Lanka in 1953. This anniversary marks an official milestone within a much longer period of our deeply rooted historic friendship between the people of Germany and the people of Sri Lanka. Today, Sri Lanka and Germany are entwined in many ways. Germany and the European Union are among the most important markets for some Sri Lankan industries and products. Over 50,000 Germans visit Sri Lanka annually.
