German Ambassador Mr Holger Seubert and Deputy Head of Mission Mr Andreas Berg called on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on December 3rd at his residence in Wijerama Mawatha. Ambassador Seubert seized the opportunity to assure the Prime Minister that Germany is here as a friend, ready to support whenever required. During the meeting, Prime Minister lauded Germany’s support to Sri Lanka in numerous fields. A number of specific topics were discussed, including the issue of import restrictions and its consequences to German-Sri Lankan trade: Sri Lanka today exports more than double the value of goods to Germany than the other way round, with this gap further widening. Ambassador Seubert expressed hope that Sri Lanka will be able to lift / to ease import restrictions in the near future, thus bringing German-Sri Lankan trade back to normal.
